The Real Story Behind Our Memories in Motion

Updated: Oct 4, 2020

I have been asked many many times how I started Our Memories in Motion. My short answer is always "it was a hobby that turned in to a business." While that is true, there is more to the story. The story of Our Memories in Motion dates back to the late 1990's. Back before cell phones were all the rage and before we could record TV shows digitally.

The story starts when I was introduced to video editing by my cousin. My cousin was always the person in the family with the latest tech so he knew a ton about video editing. He made a video of my uncle and another cousin and removed their voices and dubbed new funnier sounding voices. I was hooked. I thought this was the neatest thing. I can still remember that day in my parents basement when he played that video for all of us.

Now lets fast forward to the early 2000s. I will never forget the day my mom sat me on my parent's dryer and told me the news. She told me something that I was not expected to fully understand, but still needed to know. My cousin had HIV. HIV..... Those three letters would change my family and my life forever. HIV eventually turned in to AIDS and my cousin passed away. My cousin, staggering well over 6 foot and weighing well over 200 pounds, died weighing less than 100. I saw my cousin go from this man full of life and loving every minute of it to a walking skeleton. See my cousin wasn't just my cousin. This man was more like a brother to me and I knew I had to do something to keep his legacy going.

After he passed, I started researching as much about video editing and slide shows as I could. I don't know what I researched more, HIV/AIDS or video editing. Probably about the same when it comes down to it. I wanted to continue his name. I wanted to continue his legacy.

In fact, one of my very first slide shows was a memorial for my cousin.

So there you go. There's the real story behind how I started Our Memories in Motion. Stay tuned to find out what Our Memories in Motion was initially supposed to be named!
